my tatay is lolo pogi!

first of all, thanks to everyone who voted for my tatay last friday. the campaign was so short (last day of voting hehe) but it was all worth it. maraming salamat po! to those who are wondering what is this all about, please see my previous journal. now, my tatay is officially a LOLO POGI! he won third place. yahoo!!! last night, my dad kissed me and thanked me (and the rest of my siblings) for all the support we gave him on this contest. grabe, pang-beauty contest talaga ang speech! literally, panalo ang LOLO mo! hahaha.


OT: beware of Yahoo! account hackers
to those who are fond of using yahoo and internet explorer (where phishing is very rampant), please beware of this hacker's modus operandi that has been going on for weeks. the drama is that some friend of yours from abroad would pm you in yahoo messenger and asks about how you're doing with your life. eventually after the usual chit-chat, your 'friend' would ask you to buy globe and smart prepaid cards for him (he'd use it for roaming daw or resell them to fellow pinoys abroad). this person would then promise he'd pay you when he comes back to the phils the following week. if this setup won't be comfortable to you he would then promise to wire transfer to you the money. plus another promise that he'd pay you more than the amount of the prepaid cards you bought. of course, this is tempting. apparently (and unfortunately), your friend's account was hacked and it wasn't him or her you're chatting with. probably his account was hacked when he clicked some links that led him to a fake logon page of yahoo (this is possible in IE so to be safe, better use Mozilla instead).

i already heard of this modus operandi weeks ago and there were multiple incidents already (fortunately, no victims yet with the prepaid cards, just hacked yahoo accounts). it's just today that i actually got to chat with a hacker, who, of course, acted as my friend. as soon as this person asked me for prepaid cards, i was already sure that it wasn't my friend. besides, the avatar is some old picture of the late actor boy garcia (baduy pa nung hacker ha!). i knew it wasn't him for i know he loves to brag about the photos he has taken (just like me he's currently into photography). it was just so funny how i indirectly told him that he's already buking. i'm so proud of myself (just like when i submitted my parent's pics in the Lolo Pogi and Lola Ganda contest of manila bulletin) read on.

last week, i saw this contest for grandparents while reading the showbiz page (that's the only thing i'm reading everyday) of balita tabloid. my parents are qualified since they are already over 60yrs old. the contest is called Lolo Pogi and Lola Ganda (Grandparents Day Contest). what i needed to join my parents were two 3R pictures, one close-up and one half-body. so i took out my cds of pictures and looked for that one great picture i took of my parents on my nephew's 2nd birthday in jollibee (great memory eh!). then i went over on the piles of album in our living room and looked for their portrait shot taken in my sister's wedding reception. when i found it i brought it to the office and had it scanned (thanks ssip!). come weekend, i opened the two pics, edited them a bit in photoshop and then printed them on my stock of photo papers. great! come monday, i asked donar to handcarry the pictures and the entry form to manila bulletin's office in intramuros. the deadline was tuesday this week so i really ensured that my entry would get in. after that, i crossed my finger that they would really get in the contest. by the way, i put djuan as the entry sender. hehehe.

come thursday morning (supposedly the 2nd day to vote for the finalists), my mom woke me up and showed me our copy of balita that day. she told me that my dad told her that he couldn't believe he was actually on the newspaper. hahaha. my dad got in the contest! here's a copy of announcement on the newspaper. tatay's the one i put on red box.

today is the last day for voting. so whoever is reading this post of mine, please help vote for my tatay. it's just 2.50/text and you could be one of the lucky text winners in the raffle. i really wanted my tatay to win this contest. this is one form of being grateful to him for being a great dad and for taking care of my baby boy (i still don't have a yaya right now) while i'm away from home. i would have wanted my mom to be part of the contest too but unfortunately she was not chosen. i am like my dad, all smiles on pictures, probably why he was chosen. see, he's even third on the list!
